*Ecoflag and Recycle Boxes Set Up at Obukuro Higashi Primary (Saitama) School Sports Day

The Ecoflag was flying at the Obukuro Higashi Primary school sports day in Koshigaya city, and the School Principal promised not only to continue flying the flag at future sports days, but to get involved in GSA's tennis ball recycling initiative in line with the school's tradition of being 'kind to people, things and the environment'. The school has also set up recycle boxes so the students can do something for the environment, everyday.

All Primary schools in Koshigaya have become involved in the 'Kids Eco-Club' as part of a scheme started by the Ministry for the Environment in 1995 that gets all age groups involved in a variety of projects.

At the sports day, third graders looked at what they could do for the environment and got involved in different activities including increasing awareness.

The Ecoflag was flying at this school's sports day, as it was last year. Under a green flag and a clear blue sky, the kids did their best and had fun.

*Shudo Primary School (Aomori)


As part of Shudo Primary's extra-curricular activities, the children enjoyed the chance to plant rice. We flew the Ecoflag as the children planted the seedlings on the markers, just as they did in olden times. Everyone's now looking forward to the autumn harvest.

The Board of Education of Arai City are sending Ecoflags to the state schools in the area as a symbol of the children's environmental action.
