| *The Ecoflag in Australia |
|
|
August 2008--Australian schools are entering their winter vacation, and 7th graders are getting involved in a new environmental project for the 3rd term. I am not the teacher in charge but when I showed the Ecoflag to the teachers they were very interested, and will be making up plans for the flag this winter vacation.
Water shortage is a problem in this area and as the football ground uses grass they have introduced a water recycling system. In the town pool they have also introduced a solar pool heating system.
The photo was taken at the football ground where I introduced the Ecoflag concept.

A Sports Festival was held at the Shibaura Institute of Technology Junior and Senior High School on 27 October, although due to a typhoon the schedule was somewhat changed.
Last year we flew the Ecoflag for the first year but in the following year didn’t have a chance to further promote the Ecoflag Movement, so at this year’s festival we made sure to get the message across to students and guardians, making sure everyone understood the meaning of Ecoplay and the Ecoflag. A Vital Messages exhibition was also held in the cafeteria. |

Third year junior high students from Kashiwa JHS, belonging to the Shibaura Institute of Technology, took part in a foreign study trip to Malaysia. The seven day trip was held to promote exchange with a school in Malaysia and the students had been exchanging letter in the build up to the trip, to help smooth the process.
Since 2007 the Malaysia’s Education Ministry approved the inclusion of environmental studies into the curriculum and the Japanese students gave a presentation on some initiatives that have taken place in Japan.
At the opening welcome party, an Ecoflag was presented and the goal of the Ecoflag Movement explained. The flag was then flown alongside the school’s national and regional flags

The importance of protecting the natural environment was a theme at this year’s Nagasaki City Junior Judo Tournament. The parents and guardians that help to run the judo club are keen to continue taking environmental action at club activities in the future. |

JHS Tennis Club (Chiba) enjoyed a tennis training session
in
Karuizawa on 4-6 August, after which we collected up the used
tennis balls
to donate to the Sport-Eco.Net program. This is the 4th time
we’ve make a
collection, and this time we managed to gather about 300 balls
that will be
send to schools around the country. |

*The
whole school took part in a ‘enjoy one day in
Spring’ event that
involved cleaning up the mountainside on 3 June. We also
gathered bamboo
shoots to make soup. After that we separated the garbage.
It was a great
day. |
