Isonoura Coastal Beach Clean Festa 2003 |

| After
delays due to bad weather, the 11th Beach Clean took place on 4th
September. About 1500 people took part in the event, despite the
cool conditions, and about 10 tons of garbage was collected and
separated. Originally made up of mostly surfers, the event has
swelled to include local residents, who were interested to learn
about the Ecoflag and GSA’s activities. |

a yearly cycle ride from Wakkanai, Hokkaido to Kagoshima, Kyushu
to increase environmental awareness throughout Japan, the BEE crew
stop off at Patagonia in Kanda, Tokyo to lecture on sustainable
societies.

Coastal Marathon (Aomori)

| 28 September.
700 people took part in this, the 10th fun run. Route 101, which
runs north-south through the town, is the same distance as a marathon
and inspired the creation of the event. |

An E-Boat
contest to celebrate Umi no Hi (Ocean Day - a Japanese national holiday).
Many boats from all over the country took part in this event sponsored
by the NPO Regional Exchange Center. The E-boat is a 10-man rowboat
that requires teamwork and coordination to win. Everyone pulled together
at the end to help clean up the shoreline making it good day for participant
and the environment alike.

| GSA took
part in recent meetings of involving Tokyo Bay NPOs and Citizen's
Networks in Chiba prefecture. The organization's goal is to make the
bay clean enough to swim in and they are calling all organizations
to assist in this endeavor. |

| Organic
Farming in Fukaura-cho, Aomori Prefecture Cherry blossoms, tulips
and daffodils are some of the spring flowers to be found on this organic
farm in Aomori. |
|

|
| This group
works to build baseball grounds using only natural grass. On 5 April
they leveled the ground and planted seed. The earth requires daily
watering and takes about 3 weeks before the grass begins to emerge.
The ground should open sometime in August. |
