Spreading
the Ecoflag around the world It must be 25 years since I first held a
tennis racket in my hand. Putting all my power behind each shot I
watched as the balls vanished into the sky above. I guess practice
makes perfect. Today's top players are not just involved in tennis but
are spreading the message about poverty, aids and the environment to an
international audience. It's my hope that we'll see top class players
coming out of Japan that are carrying the ecoflag message around the
world.

At the
Japan Professional Tennis Association we are joining GSA in collecting
used tennis balls to send to schools with children that have impaired
hearing. The used balls are fitted to the bottom of tables and chairs
and help to reduce extraneous noise.

1.Reusing
tennis balls (left) 2.Environmentally friendly farming at the Azamino
Lawn Tennis Club. For health and to preserve the natural environment,
the club members have been growing potatoes, sweet potatoes and other
vegetables using non-chemical means and introducing the environmentally
friendly farming method at events in Yokohama. We also roast the
potatoes and eat them at special events.
