*International Beach Volleyball 2003 in Odaiba

Fuji Television, the Japan Beach Volleyball Federation and the Japan Volleyball Association hosted ‘International Beach Volleyball 2003’ in Odaiba, Tokyo. The Ecoflag was flying officially at the event combined with the ‘Keep the beach clean-Think environment!’ slogan, environmental messages and beach clean ups.

On the final day of the event, the Ecoflag flew behind center stage beside the national flags of the participating athletes. About 5,000 spectators showed up over the three days to watch the teams (two from Japan and four from Japan) compete.

Japan’s Mika Saeki and Seiko Urata won in the women’s event, while Japan’s Beach Winds (Koichi Nishimura and Kentaro Asahi) managed a respectable third, behind American and three-time Olympic medallist, Karch Kirali. Beach winds also took part in beach clean ups that accompanied the event along with awareness raising messages given out by the DJ. Interaction with the crowd was an important part of the event with Karch Kirali giving a ‘one-point’ volleyball lesson and all-comers taking on Beach Flag World Champion Morgan Frazer.
