The latest leg of the beach volleyball
World Tour swept through Osaka with the women’s
competition taking place 8-10 August at the Beach Volleyball
Arena, the only one of its kind in Japan.
The Ecoflag is flying at the Arena, as it is throughout
the World Tour this year. Team competing here are all
hoping for a slot in next year’s Olympics, but
with only 24 spots available (and no more than two from
one country), competition is fierce.
Progress in the event was delayed due to a fierce
typhoon that disrupted the event and emphasized how
closely connected this sport is to the environment.
Three of the four finalists were Brazilian with their
nearest rivals Australia eventually taking third place.
GSA Navigators Kentaro Asahi and Koichi Nishimura gave
a demonstration match against a university team. |
