Before doing battle under perfect blue skies, the athletes of the Tsuyazaki Beach Soccer Festival 2002, work together to clean the beach to perfection. The welcome party on the 17th included a barbeque, stage attractions such as hula dancing and African drumming, and lots of alcohol to seal friendships before the next day's event.
According to local rules, a handicap system is implemented to help ladies teams and Fukuoka's First Ladies team won 4 matches to reach the finals against Mensole Hanazuru. It was an electrifying final but ultimately through strength and skill Mensole pushed ahead in the third period to win for the fourth time.
