*April Special: El Tour de Phoenix

Tour de Phoenix
Date:12 April 2003 Place / Phoenix, Arizona
12 April 2003. The 12th annual El Tour de Phoenix may not be the among the best known races in the cycling world, but it is leading the pack in making the environment a top priority, as well contributing to numerous other charitable causes.
Sponsored by Pierson Construction Corporation, the event attracted over 900 cyclists from around the country, and has raised over $55,000 in the last two years alone for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The environment was also high on the agenda with the event flying the Ecoflag as a means of increasing awareness and action among the sporting community.
At just 17 years old, local lad Ron Jensen was the first across the line in the 70-mile event with a time of 2:33:53. Jane Meneely was the first woman in 2:35:05. Inline skaters took part for the first time in the 25-mile event and Kevin Puhlmann from Mesa, Arizona setting the record at 1:06:21.
